Matthew is a research associate at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at the Ohio State University and joined the Institute in 2009. He works with the “Opportunity Communities Program” including all GIS, housing, neighborhood revitalization and regional policy initiatives. His work involves community assessment using GIS, housing policy analysis, regional advocacy, and research on issues of neighborhood investment and revitalization.
Prior to working for the Kirwan Institute, Matthew was a regional planner for the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission in Dayton, Ohio where his work focused on land use policy, transportation planning, and regional development. He has also worked in planning departments at the local government level in Kettering and Piqua, Ohio where he assisted with neighborhood research, zoning initiatives, and development planning.
Matthew attended Wright State University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in Urban Affairs, as well as a minor degree in African and African American Studies.

Research Interests: Regionalism, history of urbanization, the relationship between physical and social environments, neighborhood revitalization, GIS.
