Research

The Institute strives to provide innovative, compelling and strategic research to both academic audiences and the broader community. Much of the Institute’s research is applied and policy oriented, providing informed direction and assistance to social justice advocates, communities, funders and policy makers. The following provides information on our core research areas and provides a comprehensive index of recent Institute projects.
Opportunity Communities conducts applied research to support collaborations, community development, fair housing and social justice. Global Justice focuses on issues of racialized structures that hinder marginalized communities and groups from having equitable access to jobs, education, health care, food security, housing and other basic services. Structural Racialization examines how systems and system components are arranged and structured to distribute social meaning, identity, benefits and burdens in particular situations and how these structures can be modified and transformed. Race in the Mind examines how the form and content of communications influence how racialized messages are received and processed.
